Renewal of Vows A ceremony to remember
Sharing a milestone in life with family and friends is an important way for people to demonstrate their commitment to each other, their families and to their friends.
During TT 2007 a Scottish couple chose to renew their vows in the Isle of Man – the place they visited on their honeymoon. Carolyn and Keith contacted Isle of Man Freethinkers to enquire whether a ceremony could be conducted.
One of our officiants, Andrew Dixon, spoke to the couple, their family and the best man from their wedding 25 years ago. A simple, yet personal, tribute was written and included words from the couple’s three boys.
Following discussion Andrew suggested a beautiful setting for their ceremony, atop Milner’s Tower on Bradda Head, Port Erin.
“Our day was so special, everything had been carefully considered and even the weather was perfect!” said Carolyn, “and the trip in the boat around the Calf was fantastic too”.
“It is the small details; a bottle of Champagne (and glasses!), a reservation for dinner at the Bay Hotel beneath Bradda Head, a surprise trip on a speed boat as well as the bound copies of the ceremony that really made the difference. Oh and he wrote a lovely tribute as well!” remembers Keith.
